GAF 888-Z NO.1 (3721) 8mm projector page7-15-25: This was the first 8mm film projector I bought. I read that it was reliable due to a simple design, and there are many of them in circulation cheap. This one has the switch labels worn away, the motor drive belt was broken, and the lamp didn't light. I paid $30 bucks for a belt rebuild kit on Ebay, which was easy to install. Take 2, the reels moved, but still no lamp. Guessing the lamp is bad, ordered the first 4 short films, cartoons and a family film. With those I learned that the reels are turning the wrong directions. Closer inspection shows the plastic main switch has broken. It also controlled a slide switch that turns on the lamp. Turns out the lamp is OK. I may salvage the new belts from this one for GAF 888-Z No.2, which is on the way. I've also bought some earlier models, like the GAF 588 and the GAF / Anscovision Memory Master 2, which don't appear to have the plastic main switch.Click any pic to enlarge to full screen in a new tab.
